Growth hormone peptides in Australia, explained

"Growth hormone peptides" is an umbrella term for compounds that nudge your own pituitary to release more growth hormone. Here's how the main ones work — and the honest state of the evidence.

What people mean by "GH peptides"

Rather than injecting growth hormone (GH) directly, these compounds encourage the body to release its own. They fall into two families: GHRH analogues like CJC-1295 and Sermorelin, which mimic the brain's natural "release GH" signal; and growth hormone secretagogues like Ipamorelin, GHRP-2 and GHRP-6, which act on the separate ghrelin receptor. Because the two families act on different switches, they are often discussed as a stack.

Why CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin are paired

CJC-1295 is long-acting and raises the baseline of GH release; Ipamorelin adds a cleaner, more selective pulse without the cortisol and prolactin rises seen with older secretagogues. The theory is complementary action. The important caveat: while each compound has been characterised in early research, the popular stack has not been validated in large human outcome trials.

What the evidence actually supports

There is genuine early human pharmacology data (notably for CJC-1295) showing these compounds raise GH and IGF-1. What there isn't: robust, long-term human trials proving the marketed benefits — fat loss, muscle gain, anti-ageing, faster recovery. Most of those claims lean on animal studies or anecdote. Treat confident "results" claims with caution.

The Australian reality

All of these are prescription-only (Schedule 4) and none are registered on the ARTG — so they are compounded, not approved medicines, and the TGA has flagged unapproved peptides. They are also banned in sport under the WADA code. Anyone considering them should be doing so with a registered doctor who can weigh the unknowns, not buying from an online "research" supplier.

The bottom line

GH peptides are an interesting, fast-moving area with real early science and a lot of overstated marketing. If you're curious, the useful next step is an honest conversation with an AHPRA-registered practitioner — start with our explainers on CJC-1295 and Ipamorelin.
